Matthew 8:26 (ESV)
And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
Talk About It
The disciples were in a boat with Jesus when a big storm came. Even though Jesus was right there, they were scared! When they woke Him up, He asked, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then, Jesus showed His power by telling the wind and waves to stop, and everything became calm. Sometimes, life feels stormy for us too. We get scared or worried about things that happen—like when life is hard or out of control. Jesus wants us to remember that He is always with us, even when we feel afraid. Being afraid is normal, but Jesus doesn’t want fear to control us. When we trust Him, He brings us peace, even in the middle of our storms. No worry is too big for Jesus—He helps us trust Him more each day.
For Parents to Explain
Lord Jesus, thank You that You are bigger than any storm in our lives. Please help us trust You and give us peace when we feel afraid. Amen.
Family Activities
Paper Boat Faith (Creative Reflection)
- Fold paper boats together as a family.
- On each boat, write or draw something that sometimes makes you feel afraid.
- Set the boats in a bowl of water and talk about how Jesus is with us, even in our storms.
- Pray together, asking Jesus to calm your “storms.”
Storms and Calms Game (Real-Life Application)
- Take turns making your hands "stormy" by wiggling them and making wind sounds.
- When someone says “Peace, be still!” everyone slowly calms down and sits quietly.
- Talk about how it feels to go from stormy to calm.
- Ask how Jesus can bring you peace in real life when you’re worried.
Family Prayer
Let’s each name something that makes us scared, then ask Jesus to help us trust Him with it.
